from Maz Raz by Razteria

This song was inspired by a survey of household risk factors for having populations of Vinchucas – Insects that transmit Chagas disease (The Vectors) – a chronic disease for which there is no cure and which results in death by heart failure or GI tract failure (toxic mega colon syndrome).

VISIT World Health Organization for a more precise description and illustrations.

I wrote this in October 2006 when I participated as a surveyor in a prevention campaign carried out by Dr Ricardo Gurtler’s research group in Santiago de Estero – a northern province of Argentina.

Lyrics and Explanation

Han Visto Vinchuca?

La Negra La Rubita …
(The 2 species of vinchuca in this area – La Negra Triatoma infestans which transmits Chagas disease – La rubita – wild species which apparently do not or rarely transmit)

Han visto Vinchuca?

Que chupan la sangre… (repite)
(that suck blood)

Asesino escondido…
(Hidden Assasin – literally- as it lives hidden in roofs and walls made of mud and plants and metaphorically as it kills years later)

De que esta hecho tu techo?

Afata Poleo Afata Poleo…

Refugio para el asesino…
(WHat is you roof made of? Afata – Poleo – 2 plants – habitat for the assasin)

Gallinas Cerdos Cabras Caballos

Donde donde donde duermen tus caballos

Sangre Para el Asesino.
(Hens pigs goats horses – where do you horses sleep – blood for the assasin)
